Uwe Neumeister is a security guard who works a thirteen-hour night shift guarding a large office complex as part of a security and locksmith company. I accompanied him for several nights and talked to him about his life. The night consists of many quiet rounds, full cups of coffee, and endless waiting. The film tells a story that visually
contrasts the protagonist's working life with the described contents of his personal life at home. It accompanies a job that is nerve-wracking, monotonous, lonely, and redundant—yet Uwe Neumeister is satisfied with his work and his everyday life, which has been torn from its normal rhythm. In the quiet moments, the relationship between the filmmaker and the protagonist becomes increasingly intimate, and Uwe Neumeister opens up and enjoys the appreciative
audience. A narrative of GDR times, unemployment, and strokes of fate, and the small joys of life “doused” in lots of coffee to get through the unspectacular night and go to sleep when everyone else is starting their day.
