Was das Gespenst nicht kennt/ Specters of the Afteernoon | Klasse Expanded Cinema | Kunstammlungen Chemnitz in der Villa Esche

From 1952 to 1964, the Ministry for State Security of the GDR operated in Villa Esche. A 176-seat cinema was set up there. Apart from a few building applications and file notes on the construction of the cinema, no further information can be found. There are no traces of this in the villa today. The purpose of this room was to screen training films for Stasi employees. Specifically, films about passport controls, surveillance, preserving traditions, operational procedures, and even the birthdays of Erich Mielke, the head of the Stasi, were probably shown there.
